
Raffar Amru, S.T.Process Technician in the Methanol Department at Qatar Fuel Additives Company Ltd. (QAFAC)
Raffar Amru is currently working at Qatar Fuel Additives Company Ltd. (QAFAC), a petrochemical company that produces Methyl Tertier Butyl Ether (MTBE) and Methyl Alcohol (Methanol). He holds the position of Process Technician in the Methanol Department, where his primary responsibility is to operate the methanol production process.
Raffar ensures the smooth operation of production by performing direct field adjustments based on orders from the Process Controller. His role involves managing several key process units, such as the Reformer Unit for generating hydrogen gas, the Synthesis Unit for reacting hydrogen with CO2 from the Carbon Dioxide Recovery Unit to produce methanol, and the Distillation Unit, which purifies methanol to 99% purity before being transferred to the tank farm.
The majority (70%) of QAFAC’s methanol production is exported to international markets, while the remaining 30% is used for MTBE production. Raffar also reports his daily activities to the Shift Engineer, conducts regular inspections, troubleshoots process equipment, and maintains operational parameters.
Prior to joining QAFAC, Raffar gained extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, having worked with PT. Medco E&P Malaka, Pertamina-Medco E&P Tomori Sulawesi, Qatar Fertiliser Company Ltd., and PT. Pupuk Iskandar Muda. He graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Universitas Malikussaleh.
