Zahiri Muhammad Ilyas: A Chemical Engineering Graduate from Universitas Malikussaleh Building a Career at ADNOC Refinery. Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is one of the world’s largest oil companies, operating across the exploration, production, and refining of petroleum in the United Arab Emirates. As an integrated energy company, ADNOC manages various stages of the oil and gas supply chain, including the refining of crude oil. Zahiri Muhammad Ilyas, a Chemical Engineering graduate from Universitas Malikussaleh, currently works at ADNOC Refinery, which is part of ADNOC’s extensive crude oil processing network. At this refinery, crude oil from oil fields is processed into higher-value products. Zahiri shared, "Alhamdulillah, I have been entrusted as an Operator in six main units at ADNOC Refinery, each playing a vital role in crude oil processing." Here’s a brief overview of the six units that Zahiri operates: Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) In this unit, crude oil is separated into different fractions based on their boiling points, serving as the initial stage of the refining process. Saturated Gas Plant This unit functions to separate gas from liquids, referred to as Naphtha, through the process of saturated gas distillation. & 4. Sulfur Recovery and LPG Separation Units These units are responsible for removing sulfur from LPG and further separating LPG into two types: LPG propane and LPG butane. Diesel Desulfurization Unit In this unit, Zahiri operates processes to separate diesel (Light Gas Oil) from H₂S and water content, producing green diesel, which is more environmentally friendly. Benzene Reduction Reactor This unit is used to reduce the benzene content in crude oil, which is then used as a feedstock for gasoline production. Throughout his role at ADNOC Refinery, Zahiri has demonstrated a high level of dedication and technical expertise.
